German Resident Owns Rare Decommissioned American Police Car
Florian Weiß, a 25-year-old resident of Albstadt, Germany, is the proud owner of a unique vehicle – a decommissioned American Ford Crown Victoria police car. This distinctive automobile, which was in service with the American police from 2010 to 2019, is now a regular sight on the roads of the Zollernalb district.
Contrary to popular belief, Weiß did not learn about car restoration from workshops but through YouTube videos. His journey to becoming the owner of this American police car was an unexpected one. Before owning the car, he had not been actively looking for an American police car. Instead, he stumbled upon the car on eBay classifieds in Dortmund.
The maintenance of the Ford Crown Victoria is expensive due to the need to order parts from the USA. Despite the costs, Weiß undertook the restoration of the car by sanding it down and repainting it to its original form. The car's flashing light cannot be turned on during the drive, and there is a switch in the trunk to prevent this.
Weiß faces regular police checks due to the car's flashing light, but he finds great joy in his Ford Crown Victoria despite all the challenges. He considers himself a little crazy for investing so much time into it. The car is now used by Weiß for shopping or going to work.
The Ford Crown Victoria is one of four old police cars from the USA being sold in Germany. Weiß is a member of the Lions State Interceptors club, which focuses on police cars and unites 15 vehicle owners from Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. The club regularly drives the unique police cars together, with the next outing planned in Balingen.
With only two American police cars currently on the road in the Zollernalb district, they are a true rarity. Weiß discovered the availability of the car from an episode of the series 'The Germinator'. The old police cars will start, drive in a convoy together, and travel into the Danube valley, attracting curious and surprised glances.
