Here's a sneak peek at Velbert's jubilee celebration, commemorating fifty years since its inception. The city's committee has been brainstorming an action-packed weekend, with events taking place in the heart of the city and a music-filled summer holiday assortment.
The merger of Langenberg, Neviges, and Velbert back in the day will be grandly celebrated. The updated program was recently discussed at the Economic Development Committee meeting.
Charity has always been close to the city's heart, and this consciousness carries on in the upcoming anniversary festivities. A new event called "Charity4Kids" has snuck onto the agenda, collaborating with the "Bulldogs4Kids" association and the Neviges Youth Association. This family-friendly, charitable gathering will take place in the Neviges city garden on May 25 (Sunday).
Inaugural Anniversary Weekend Kick-off
The anniversary weekend will kick off on Friday, June 13, with an inaugural ceremony at the Forum Velbert. As a cherry on top, a '70s party with two live bands will begin at the Offers Platz at 5 pm, spreading the jubilation. On Saturday, the celebration area will expand to occupy the entire city center. The Thomasstraße will transform into the exhilarating "Blue Light Mile," showcasing the fire department, police, DRK, THW, and the military. Various associations will present their offerings at the "Association Mile." A dedicated section will champion inclusivity. Local artists and companies will flaunt their work at "Made in Velbert." There will be a myriad of activities for children on both Saturday and Sunday.
Sustainable mobility will be a crucial aspect on Sunday. The evening's stage program at Offers Platz will carry on till the wee hours. Shops will also be open for Sunday shopping over the weekend.
Get Ready to Rock at the IMS Arena!
The concert weekend spanning July 25-27 at the IMS Arena is being orchestrated by the city marketing department, hand in hand with the Kulturlöwen and the city utilities. Applications for "Local Heroes" on Friday are now open. On Saturday night, singer-songwriter Kamrad will enchant the crowd in his hometown. As part of the jubilee celebrations, the sculpture trail in Langenberg will be inaugurated on July 5. Additionally, a Pink Floyd tribute band will perform a concert at the Old Horse Market on August 30, organized by the Alldie Kunsthaus. On August 21, Martin Sanner will moderate a panel discussion about the transformation of municipalities over the last fifty years at the German Castle and Locksmith Museum.
