Wasserlos Harvests 2 Tons of Organic Apples, Educates Children
On September 27, 2025, around 40 people, half of them children, gathered in Wasserlos for a family-friendly apple harvesting action. The event aimed to strengthen the local organic scattered orchard for future generations.
The Wasserlos scattered orchard, renovated in 2018, is home to around 60 fruit trees, mostly apple trees. Five more trees were planted in 2019, expanding the orchard's diversity. The action, themed 'Harvest, Share, Connect', saw nearly two tons of organic cider apples harvested. Children learned about apple varieties and organic apple juice production. The kindergarten 'Die Wildbienchen' supported the Schlaraffenburger harvesting team during the event. After several drought-affected weaker harvests, the 2025 harvest was very good.
The apple harvesting action in Wasserlos was a success. It not only resulted in a bountiful harvest but also educated children about organic apple production and strengthened community bonds. The goal to fortify the organic scattered orchard for future generations is well on its way to being achieved.
